Body composition testing (or body fat analysis) determines how much of your body is and isn't fat. The non-fat part of your body is called lean tissue, which includes your muscle, water, bone and organs. Lean tissue is known as metabolically active tissue, the tissue that burns calories all day. The more lean tissue you have, the higher your resting metabolic rate will be. The fat part is body fat.
Body fat is a storage form of energy and excess amounts can put pressure on vital organs and potentially cause issues such as diabetes and heart disease.
Knowing this information is much more accurate for leading a healthy life & looking healthy, than a simple number on a scale which doesn't give away any more information than a simple number.
This is tested by one of our specially trained PT's by either manual body fat callipers or an electrical impedance machine. Both of which are quick, non-invasive and completely pain free. You don't feel a thing.
People often say don't rely on scales to see that your body is changing. Use other options too such as waist measurements and before / after photos. While these are great ideas, body fat testing is often thought of as the gold standard in comparison to weighing yourself on scales.
Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat & risk based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women. While not as accurate as body fat analysis is it more commonly used and a numeric score gives an indication of level & from underweight to obese. This test is compete by out PT who takes measurements and uses a specific calculation.
This result will give you a good indication of where you are now and how to progress to meet your goals.
Ketosis is a normal metabolic process. When the body does not have enough glucose for energy, it burns stored fats instead; this results in a build-up of acids called ketones within the body. Some people encourage ketosis by following a diet called the ketogenic or low-carb diet.
However, ketosis can be extremely dangerous. This test is a simple urine analysis and with an immediate result we can look at what's happening inside your body and discuss the pro's & con's of ketosis.
