The Park Club on Milton Park are organising some festive, fun this Christmas with the 5K Camo Santa Run on Friday 13th December 2019. The event will raise money for the Armed Forces charity (SSAFA) and start at 12:30 from outside the Park Club gym, it is open to all abilities with everyone able to take part, by running, jogging or walking the route.
The event is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and most importantly have fun! We are encouraging all participants to dress in a Santa, camo theme, to support our chosen charity SSAFA. Santa hats will be provided for all participants, as well as the option of camouflage face paints. An open day and other fundraising activities will take place on the day with prizes available for fastest man and woman. We are calling on everyone to come down and challenge themselves for a great cause!
The event requires a £10 donation, with all proceeds going to SSAFA (Armed Forces charity). SSAFA helps the armed forces community in a number of ways, focusing on providing direct support to individuals in need of physical or emotional care. They support both regulars and reserves in the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, the British Army, the Royal Air Force, and their families, including anyone who has completed National Service.
Addiction, relationship breakdown, debt, homelessness, post-traumatic stress, depression and disability are all issues that can affect the Armed Forces community. Many of these problems only become apparent when an individual has to leave their life in the Forces and SSAFA is committed to helping our brave men and women overcome these problems and rebuild their lives. Susan Doran, Welfare Support Officer at SSAFA commented, “We are delighted to be the chosen charity for this year’s Santa Run, this will provide great recognition for the work that takes place at SSAFA and help us to reach more people in Oxfordshire requiring our support”.
This year’s events will also include the Park Club Elf Run, encouraging local primary school children to get moving this Christmas. Park Club’s Community team will lead these events, where children will dress up as Elf’s and join the festivities by completing a shorter distance course and also raising money for the Armed Forces charity.
Richard Claydon, Group Health & Wellbeing Manager for Park Club commented, “The Santa Run events have been really successful each year and we are excited to be raising money for SSAFA and having a camo theme for this year’s event. We are once again calling on everyone to sign up, have fun and raise money for a great cause! We want to encourage all abilities and fitness levels to take part, challenge yourself and get into the Christmas spirit.”
